Wine tourism, walking, cycling...
What would a visit to Burgundy be without a spot of wine tourism? The vineyards of the Mâconnais and the Côte Chalonnaise have a rich and colourful history, the fruit of a knowledge stretching back to Antiquity (thanks to the Romans), whose techniques have been developed and refined throughout the ages to add gallons of joy to dinner tables across the world. In many ways, a map of the region is like a wine list, which you can spend hours discovering (in moderation, of course). Enjoy a tasting here, or a tasting there – the possibilities are endless.
After all these dizzying experiences, perhaps you might want to go walking or cycling along the “Voie Bleue” (Blue Way), a multi-use path along the riverbank, and part of a route that goes all the way from the Atlantic to the Black Sea! You might prefer a gentler stroll through the Mâconnais Tournugeois district depending on your interests or physical condition, or perhaps you’d like to sail along the Saône and the Seille as a family, along routes that have existed for millions of years.
For family outings, head to Touroparc Zoo, just 35 minutes from Le Kolibri. Seven hundred animals from over 140 species live in this 12 hectare-site located in Romanèche-Thorins south of Mâcon and designed with their well-being in mind. Here mammals, birds and reptiles all live together and flourish. In an era where real life seems to be taken over by anything and everything virtual, it can be refreshing for younger generations in particular to be able to stand back and appreciate the likes of lions, tigers, lemurs and pythons in their full size and splendour, and to remind ourselves that their conservation is of great importance.
